West Ham United have sacked Julen Lopetegui after just seven months in charge, following a poor run of form that left the club languishing in 14th place in the Premier League.

Former Chelsea manager Graham Potter is set to replace the Spaniard, with his first game expected to be an FA Cup clash against Aston Villa on Friday night.

The club released a statement explaining the decision:

“The first half of the 2024/25 season has not aligned with the club’s ambitions and the club has therefore taken action in line with its objectives.

“The board would like to thank Julen and his staff for their hard work during their time with the Hammers and wish them every success for the future.”

Lopetegui’s reign, which began last summer after replacing David Moyes, ended with just six wins in 20 league matches.

Defensive frailties plagued the Hammers, with the team conceding 39 goals—only Wolves, Leicester City, and Southampton have conceded more this season.
