Tyrone Beach (pictured), on the northern side of the peninsula, is favoured for swimming and water sports because of its calm waters

A man has been found dead in waters off a popular beach on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. 

A jet skier contacted emergency services after spotting the unresponsive man in waters off Tyrone Beach, near Butler Street in Rye, just before 5.30pm on Friday.

The man was taken ashore but given CPR. 

Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was declared dead at the scene. 

He has yet to be formally identified and Victoria Police are investigating. 

‘The exact circumstances are yet to be determined but the death is not being treated as suspicious,’ a police spokesperson said.
