Spit on Sidewalk Leads to Arrest in 36-Year-Old Cold Case Murder of Massachusetts Woman

A North Carolina woman arrested Monday for allegedly trying to murder her child has an extensive criminal history, according to police.

Raleigh police arrested 28-year-old Matquisha Alexis Jones, after she placed her child in a chokehold and pointed a gun at the child in April 2023.

A arrest warrant obtained by WRAL indicated that Jones is responsible for a “multitude of physical, psychological, and emotional instances of abuse,” which have caused the victim to suffer from long-term post-traumatic stress.

Jones is facing multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, assault by strangulation, assault by pointing a gun, and felony child abuse.

Her criminal history spans over a decade. In 2013, she was charged with shoplifting. In 2016, she faced two charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon. In 2017, she was charged with fraud, and the following year, she was charged with identity theft.
