- Major police operation in Varroville, Sydney
Heavily-armed specialist police officers have descended on a suburb in Sydney’s southwest.
A SWAT team, Dog Squad, PolAir, specialist paramedics and armoured BearCat vehicle were spotted on Andrew’s Rd in Varroville early Tuesday morning.
New South Wales Police urged the public to avoid the suburb.
It has not provided any further details of the operation.
However, it is understood police are searching for a suspect in a break and enter incident during which gunshots were allegedly fired about 1.30am.
Two people reportedly entered a home and fled in a vehicle. Officers followed the car to Saint Andrews Rd, Varroville, and deployed tyre spikes, Today reported.
It’s believed one person was arrested after the vehicle stopped in dense bushland while another fled on foot.
Photos at the scene showed officers have closed Andrews Rd and covered the surrounding area.

Nearby residents vented their frustration online after being left in the dark on the reason for the large police presence.
One reminded parents to keep their children inside during the operation.
