A bus driver has been killed and a dozen passengers have been injured in a crash in the NSW Riverina region.

The bus and a heavy truck collided at 3.35am on the Hume Highway at Kyeamba, about 50km south of Wagga Wagga.

Another 13 passengers are being treated by paramedics for a range of injuries, including lacerations.

One man is being treated for a suspected broken leg.

The truck driver was not injured and has been taken to Wagga Base Hospital for mandatory testing.

All northbound lanes of the Hume Highway are closed and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
