An attempted jewellery heist has failed spectacularly after a group of thieves weren’t even able to make it through the main door.
The incident, captured on CCTV, unfolded in the early hours of this morning on Adelaide’s North East Road as the masked would-be robbers tried and failed to smash through a 400 kilogram, bulletproof glass door.
“They’re just smashing the place to pieces trying to get in… luckily enough, we’ve spent a lot of money on glass and security, and they didn’t get in,” store owner Brad Mucklow said.
The determined trio of thieves resorted to crawling under the gates of the jewellery shop at around 2.30am. They then smashed a side window, but weren’t able to break in.
“While I was looking in the cameras, my alarm company rang and said there’s multiple alarms going off,” Mucklow said.
“As soon as that happens, there’s problems… so I checked the cameras and could see the place had been vandalised.”
The offenders fled the scene before police arrived, leaving behind a backpack that was later found dumped in the garden of a nearby church.
Despite finishing extensive renovations on the store just three weeks ago, Mucklow will once again have workmen on site, this time to install replacement windows and doors during the busiest time of the year.
