Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released a Christmas card this year, and it features a prominent family photo. But there is something different about the image compared to past cards.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been living in the United States since 2020, and their lives in America are far different than they were in the United Kingdom. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are raising their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in their Montecito, California neighborhood.
Harry and Meghan recently released their 2024 holiday card, and there is noticeably one family photo. But those who like to dissect the Sussexes also believe it’s sending a message about the way they want to live their lives.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Christmas card puts an ‘emphasis’ on privacy
Harry and Meghan had said years ago that they wanted to live a more private life. When the couple moved to the US, though, they were heavily criticized for speaking so openly about their royal experience despite claiming they did not want the press attention. Now, though, it seems that with their story out in the open, Harry and Meghan truly are looking to keep their lives more private. The duchess has not done any interviews in months (except one relating to a charity initiative), and she and Harry have been spending less time together in the public spotlight. And their holiday card, which noticeably hides their children’s faces, puts an “emphasis” on their new way of life.
Body language expert Judi James told Mirror that Harry and Meghan’s decision not to show their kids’ faces was certainly intentional, and it was a big change compared to their past Christmas card with Archie.
“This pose tends to show how far Harry and Meghan have moved away from their first Christmas card with Archie,” James said. “Back then it was [Archie] face-on and close up to the camera, very much the star of the pose, as his two casually dressed parents watched adoringly in the background.
James continued, “Here, though, the emphasis is on privacy with the children shown from back view only, rushing into their parents’ arms as though finding their security and love there.”

Although Harry wants nothing more than for his kids to see where he grew up, he said that he unfortunately will not return to the UK with them until the Sussex family has better security. When Harry and Meghan gave up their royal titles, they also gave up the royal security that went with them. Harry has been fighting for such security to be reinstated, but so far, it’s been to no avail.
Harry does not trust the press, nor does he trust the public, in the UK. He does not want his wife and kids walking around without proper security.
