Power back on for thousands after wild weather in NSW

Sydney was among the affected locales, with 4500 people statewide without power as of this morning.

However, about 4000 of those homes now have their power returned, with Ausgrid crews working to restore the other 500, the energy provider said in a statement.

“The outages have been caused by a combination of yesterday’s hot conditions, followed by the southerly change overnight bringing storms,” a spokesperson said earlier.

Temperatures topped 40 degrees in parts of NSW including western Sydney yesterday.

But a cool change in the evening brought rapidly falling temperatures, rain, and strong winds.

Ausgrid also warned people to stay at least eight metres – about two car lengths – away from downed powerlines.
