A teenager clocked hooning at twice the speed limit on a Perth freeway has escaped jail time.
Timothy David Field’s lawyer today told the court the 19-year-old “just wanted to get home quicker”.
He was arrested near Osborne Park in October after he was clocked at 205km/h on the Mitchell Freeway.
Field today admitted to reckless driving in his Subaru sedan.
His lawyer told the court the P-plater “just wanted to get home quicker” from his girlfriend’s house and described the offending as “out of character”.
A prosecutor described it as “incredibly serious”.
Magistrate Melissa McEwen asked Field if it was “scary” being arrested.
He said it wasn’t but admitted it was a “wake up call”.
“A term of imprisonment is open, but we are not at that stage,” McEwen said.
“[The] offending is so serious, had you had prior convictions, we might be at that point.”
Instead, the hoon was fined $1800 and had his licence disqualified for nine months.
Outside court, Field declined to comment.
