Prince Harry Confirms He Has No Plans to Move Back to the United Kingdom: ‘It’s the Life My Mom Wanted For Me’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the royal family for a life in the United States back in 2020. They have been living there ever since, and despite the rumors, Harry suggested that he has no plans to move back to England.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shocked the world when they revealed in early 2020 that they planned to step back from their senior royal roles. Initially, there was discussion of the two continuing work for the late queen while also having more freedom, but ultimately, it didn’t work out. In June 2020, Harry and Meghan bought a home in California, and they have been raising their family there ever since.

There has been speculation that Harry and Meghan might eventually make a United Kingdom return, but Harry has made it clear that he plans to remain in the United States.

Prince Harry cleared up speculation on a UK return

Ever since Harry and Meghan moved to the US, people have wondered when or if they might return to the UK. The two have only been home to visit a handful of times, and it never looked too much like they would move back, but the stories continued nonetheless. During the New York Times DealBook Summit in early December 2024, Harry finally acknowledged the rumors — and put them to rest.

When asked if Harry plans to remain in the US, he said, “I do.” He continued, “I very much enjoy living here and bringing my kids up here … I feel as though it’s the life that my mom wanted for me.”

Harry also added that he can do things with his two young children that he “undoubtedly wouldn’t be able to do in the UK.” Harry and Meghan are currently living in a luxury home in Montecito and reportedly do all ordinary things with their children, including dropping them off at school and even taking them trick-or-treating on Halloween.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle haven’t looked back since leaving the UK

Harry did say earlier this year that he loves his family, and he did fly halfway around the world to visit his father when he learned of King Charles’ cancer diagnosis. Harry seemingly does still have love for his family and would like to be closer to them, but that doesn’t mean he regrets his decision to relocate.

Harry hinted long before he met Meghan that he wanted a life of greater freedom, but he couldn’t have it due to his duty to the queen. Once Meghan came along, though, that freedom felt achievable, and the two decided together what they wanted their future to look like. So far, he seems generally happy with the changes he made.
