The Knicks got a bargain on Miles McBride’s contract. Just how much?

Miles McBride’s contract looked worse for him — and better for the Knicks — from the moment he officially signed.

We’re approaching the one-year anniversary of McBride’s three-year, $13 million extension, which most Knicks fans remember as the day they traded for OG Anunoby.

Before that fateful Dec. 30, 2023, McBride had collected 13 DNPs and was averaging a measly 1.9 points in 4.6 minutes. He was stuck in a backcourt rotation behind five players — Jalen Brunson, Immanuel Quickley, Donte DiVincenzo, RJ Barrett, Quentin Grimes — and had failed in previous two seasons to eclipse 30% shooting on 3-pointers. Barring a rash of injuries, there was little hope of consistent playing time.

Then Barrett and Quickley were shipped to Toronto for Anunoby, easing the backcourt congestion. Grimes had lost his mojo and consistent minutes.
