SC Vet Shoots Husband Multiple Times in the Back After He Files for Legal Separation

A South Carolina veterinarian is facing murder charges after a shooting Sunday, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Augusta Press, Dr. Jennifer Kerri Ray is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

At  5 p.m. on December 1, deputies from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a home in the 1000 block of Prides Crossing in Aiken.

Deputies then entered the residence and found victim Greg Baighman on the floor, with numerous gunshot wounds. They found several spent bullet casings surrounding the body, along with a black handgun recovered from the kitchen counter.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office pronounced Baughman dead at 6:30 p.m. after responding to the scene.

An arrest warrant indicated that Ray shot Baughman “multiple times in the back and multiple times while he was lying on the floor,”

The pair had reportedly had been separated for some time, with Baughman recently filing for divorce.

Civil court documents obtained by FOX 54 stated that they separated on August 29, 2024, and Baughman filed for legal separation two months later.  Ray sought a court order prohibiting either party from “selling, mortgaging, hiding, disposing of or depleting any marital assets.”

In a court appearance Monday afternoon, Ray’s attorney stated that she had been a victim of domestic abuse and had required hospitalization last month for her injuries. Ray explained that she did not file charges earlier because her husband was a Marine, and she was concerned the allegations could threaten his career.

Ray remains behind bars without bond and is set to appear in court again on March 14.
