Sydneysiders woke to an early morning blanket of fog today.

Heavy fog blanketed Penrith and the surrounding western suburbs, reducing visibility to less than 100m on the M4 motorway.

Drivers were reminded to take care and turn their lights on.

The fog is not expected to disrupt flights at the airport and the Bureau of Meteorology said it should clear by mid-morning.

More rain, low clouds and low visibility could cause disruptions in Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane too.

The heavy downpours and visibility to below a few hundred metres could impact Brisbane drivers on Monday morning, while Melbourne and Canberra experienced similar conditions this morning.
