“He has driven that vehicle at speed into the rear of another car. That car has been catapulted into a Surfside bus,” Superintendent Peter Miles said.

A 16-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the Kia, was taken to hospital with a significant head injury.

The driver of the Camry and the driver and passengers in the bus escaped with minor injuries.

“It could have been so much worse, this particular incident, we could have been looking at five deaths. Fortunately, we’re not,” Miles said.

Police alleged the black Kia was stolen from Coral Sea Court in Burleigh Waters on Thursday night.

A 15-year-old boy from Robina was charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The two teenage girls were dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
