A police officer is recovering in hospital after being allegedly stabbed during the arrest of a man in Sydney’s west this morning.

The incident unfolded shortly before 1am on Hill End Road in Doonside, when police responded to reports of a street fight involving five men.

A pursuit was initiated by officers from the North West Metropolitan Region Operational Support Group, with the assistance of the Mt Druitt Police Area Command, PolAir and the North West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad.

A short time later, the pursuit was terminated on Power Street with the car hitting a power pole and three men allegedly running away.

During the arrest, police allege a 20-year-old man stabbed a male constable in the chest.

The officer was treated at Westmead Hospital, where he is in a stable condition.
