The Tommy DeVito dilemma that comes with Giants’ decision

On the one hand, it is impossible to feel anything but thrilled for Tommy DeVito, who has been the one happy note in the last 27 games worth of New York Giants football.

Last year, he was 3-3 in six games, became a folk hero, Tommy Cutlets, and it took about 15 minutes for everyone to remember Joe Pesci had the same name in “Goodfellas,” and another 15 before it seemed like his agent with the funny hat and Silvio Dante’s wardrobe was everywhere on the Internet, all at once.

We are still a sucker for a good story around here, especially when it involves a local kid like DeVito, out of Cedar Grove, N.J., and Don Bosco Prep, crashing on the bed of his childhood room during the week and leading Big Blue to respectability on the weekend.

Yes, on that one hand, this is irresistible, an unlikely sequel to the one pro football thing around here the last two years, Giants or Jets, that doesn’t make you want to throw your remote control right through the center of the television.
