NRL great and former Wallaby Wendell Sailor has been charged over an alleged assault at a bar in Sydney’s CBD.

Witnesses claimed Sailor had been drinking at Pappy’s Bar in Sydney for several hours before an altercation with a group about 11pm yesterday.

The altercation spilled into an alleyway next to the bar where Sailor allegedly committed the assault.

Witnesses say 50-year-old Sailor has been drinking here at Pappys bar in the Sydney CBD for several hours when he got into an altercation with a few patrons downstairs around 11 last night.

It was claimed that Sailor tried to re-enter the bar and was turned away by the venue’s manager.

He allegedly refused to leave and police were called.

Sailor was granted bail and will appear in Downing Centre Local Court later this month. (Nine)

He was taken to Day Street Police Station where he was charged with five offences including two counts of common assault and one count of offensive behaviour.
