Grandfather and grandson terrorised by group who stormed their Gold Coast home

A Gold Coast grandfather and his grandson have been left shaken after they were threatened by armed bandits inside their home.

Jeffrey Hopp and his 22-year-old grandson Jackson were asleep when five young people burst into the Southport property at 2am today.

The 22-year-old was held captive in his own bedroom in an episode that lasted nine minutes, but his grandfather said the mental scarring would last longer.

“They literally said to him ‘We want your wallet, your car, your money, or we’re gonna shoot you’,” Hopp claimed.

“He was laying in the bed and he was woken up with a flashlight in his face and a screwdriver at his head.

“There was no mercy given to him, that kid is going to have to live with that for the rest of his life.”

The group demanded the keys to the family car and the 22-year-old obliged before they ransacked the home.

The five remain at large while police investigate whether the group is linked to reports of other break-ins nearby.

“You hear about people doing it, I thought it would never happen to me,” Hopp said.

“It happened to me, I feel so violated and my grandson, it’s going to take him a long time to get over this.”
