A man has been arrested following the discovery of a woman's body in rural New South Wales

A man has been arrested after a woman’s body was found in a rural NSW property.

Emergency services were called to the Henry St property in Gunnedah, north-central NSW, about 8.20am Friday following reports of a concern for welfare.

On arrival, police located the body of a woman, believed to be in her 50s.

She is yet to be formally identified.

A 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Gunnedah Police Station where he is assisting police.

Police believe, based on initial enquiries, the man and the woman are known to each other.

A crime scene has been established, which will be forensically examined by specialist police. A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
