Royal fans in Canberra have the opportunity to greet King Charles III and Queen Camilla today when they travel to the national capital for a visit packed with official engagements.

Large crowds of royal fans are expected to welcome them in the city when they arrive about midday.

Yesterday in Sydney, members of the public cheered and waved flags when they attended a church service as they eased into their tour of Australia.

But the pace will pick up today as the King and Queen complete a jam-packed schedule in Canberra, after they arrive just before lunchtime.

They’ll be greeted at the city’s airport by a group of local schoolchildren alongside a large gathering of dignitaries and also Indigenous elders before they head to the Australian War Memorial at about 12.30pm.

Members of the public will have the opportunity to greet the royals as they make their way to the memorial.

Attendees should plan to be in place at the western grounds and sculpture garden no later than 11.45am to avoid road closures and allow for security screening.

Their Majesties will lay a wreath at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Last Post will be played and then a minute’s silence will be observed,

Later, Australians can catch a glimpse of the royal couple as formalities commence at Parliament House with a ceremonial welcome, including a 21-gun salute and a guard of honour at 1pm.

A reception hosted by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will be held for them in the Great Hall.

Later in the for afternoon Canberrans will be able to see the King or Queen, as leave for separate events.

The King will visit the CSIRO National Bushfire Research Centre in Canberra to meet firefighters and scientists, while the Queen will attend an event for survivors of domestic violence

The royal couple will then make their way from the national capital to Sydney ahead of tomorrow’s visit to the city’s Opera House forecourt.
