A five-year-old boy has been left seriously injured after a rock was thrown through a train window in Far North Queensland.
Police believe the rock was thrown into the train at the James and Law street intersection in Cairns North just after 4pm yesterday.
The boy, who was a passenger on the train, was hit in the head by the rock.
He was taken to Cairns Hospital with serious injuries and is expected to be transferred to Townsville Hospital today, for further treatment.
Detectives from Cairns Child Protection Investigation Unit are investigating the attack.
They are calling for witnesses, particularly anyone with relevant vision, to come forward.
