A man has been arrested near a Donald Trump rally in Coachella in California allegedly carrying a loaded firearm, a shotgun and a high capacity magazine.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said on Sunday (Monday AEDT) Vem Miller, the 49-year-old suspect, was reportedly pulled over in a black SUV at a checkpoint set up by officers assigned to protect the former president.

He was arrested on Saturday as Trump held a rally in the Coachella Valley.

“Miller was taken into custody without incident and later booked at the John J. Benoit Detention Center for possession of a loaded firearm and possession of a high-capacity magazine,” the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.

“This incident did not impact the safety of former President Trump or attendees of the event.”

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on January 2, 2025, according to online records.
