A hiker has been rescued after slipping down a dangerous cliff face, which then crumbled beneath him.
Emergency services raced to the delicate rescue on the southern Fleurieu Peninsula, 54 kilometres south of Adelaide.
The alarm was raised just after 2.15pm, with calls saying he had fallen ten metres.
He was left hanging on by just one arm and rescuers got him to safety just in time.
Emergency radios recorded how desperate the situation became, as he struggled to hold on.
“The male is cramping. He’s got a single foot hold on the far left and struggling to hold on, over,” one said.
The cliff face is at the end of a dirt road north of Myponga Beach.
A holiday property is nearby but it’s not clear where the man came from, and the remote location initially caused confusion.
Multiple ambulance crews, the State Emergency Service and Country Fire Service volunteers were all called in along with specialist Star Group rescue experts.
It was an hour before they managed to make their way over the edge and rescue the man.
Winching the patient up by hand into a rescue helicopter was the only option because the chopper ran the risk of blowing him off the cliff face.
