“It’s a very scary thing how people with bad intentions can plan out and be very sophisticated to this extent,” the victim said.

The victim listed a Rolex for sale on Facebook marketplace for $37,000, which caught the eyes of the intruders.

They tracked the address of the owner through a previous listing which advertised a room for rent.

“People with bad intentions essentially saw those listings and tried to arrange for an inspection and tried to get some more details and obviously they successfully did that,” the victim said.

The victim had, however, sold the luxury watch about three months ago and didn’t have any cash inside the home.

The revelation prompted a police warning to be vigilant when buying or selling online.

The victim also had a message he hoped others would learn from.

“Previous listings online can still be seen unless you actually go into your profile to delete them,” he said.

“Definitely go into your profile and see if your listings are still there.”

Police are still appealing for information that could help them identify the intruders.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
