Country superstar Garth Brooks has filed a countersuit against a former stylist who accused him of rape, seeking damages for emotional stress and defamation of character.
The papers were filed Tuesday in Mississippi, where Brooks had previously filed a lawsuit as “John Doe” seeking to prevent the “Jane Roe” from filing the lawsuit that accuses him of multiple sexual assaults, according to CourtTV.
The new lawsuit, under Brooks name, also uses Jane Roe’s real name. Roe’s attorneys filed paperwork on Tuesday condemning Brooks for using her name.
CrimeOnline will not use her name because she has not publicly identified herself.
Roe filed her lawsuit in Los Angeles earlier this month, as CrimeOnline reported. In it, she says that she worked as a hair and makeup stylist for both Brooks and his wife, country singer Trisha Yearwood, and that the country star “seized what he saw as an opportunity to subject a female employee to a side of Brooks that he conceals from the public.”
“This side of Brooks believes he is entitled to sexual gratification when he wants it, and using a female employee to get it, is fair game,” the complaint said.
Brooks, who lives in Tennessee, filed his John Doe lawsuit and the second lawsuit in Mississippi, where Roe lives, CourtTV said. The two initially exchanged “confidential letters” including the threat of lawsuits before Roe said she would not file if Brooks gave her a multi-million payout.
Roe accused Brooks of grooming her and creating hostile work environment along with the allegations of rape and sexual assault. Roe also said she believed Brooks was going to hire someone to kill her.
The demand for a payout prompted the John Doe lawsuit, in which Brooks alleged that Roe’s threats came after he declined to make her. salaried employee after she had worked as a contractor for about 15 years.
