After three weeks on the run, an Oregon mother whose toddler daughter died of suspected fentanyl poisoning was captured Tuesday in Seaside.
Mary Elizabeth Jacobo, 26, was involved in a car-jacking and other violent crimes since her daughter’s death in Portland, KGW reported. Jacobo was in possession of a gun when she was taken into custody.
Seasode Police Chief Dave Ham said that Jacobo was taken to the Clatsop County Jail on outstanding warrants.
The Portland Bureau of Police issued an alert on Friday seeking help finding Jacobo but cautioned she should be considered armed and dangerous, OregonLive reported.
Investigators said that on September 12, Jacobo at first tried to resuscitate 2-year-old Aurora Fernandez but then abruptly ran out of her home, telling a friend to call 911. Aurora was pronounced dead at a hospital later in the day.
Isa Smith, the toddler’s cousin, said that Jacobo fled because she had outstanding warrants. Other relatives said the little girl had been mostly living with her father because Jacobo was in and out of jail or on probation. Court records also indicated that Aurora tested positive for fentanyl and methamphetamine on the day she was born.
