A man has been charged with murder after a woman was found dead with serious injuries in the NSW Hunter Valley.

Police were called to a property on Coulson Road in Pokolbin at 6.10pm yesterday after a concern for welfare report.

A 46-year-old woman was found dead at the scene with significant injuries.

Paramedics tried to revive her but were unable to.

An investigation into the circumstances of her death was initiated, subsequently leading to the arrest of a 47-year-old man, who was at the property.

He was taken to Cessnock Police Station and charged with murder (domestic violence).

He was refused bail and will appear in Newcastle Local Court today.
