Middle School Custodian’s Severed Head Found After He Doesn’t Show Up for Work

A suspect was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the death of a Michigan man whose dismembered remains were discovered last week.

The 40-year-old man, whose identity is being withheld pending Friday’s arraignment, was arrested as police executed a search warrant in Bay City. The Midland Daily News reported that on September 18, a girl discovered Justie Stilwell’s severed foot at the Edward Golson Boat Launch.

Stillwell’s arms and legs were found near the boat launch a short time later. The limbs were not far from Stillwell’s car at Dafoe Park. Stillwell’s family discovered his vehicle, according to WNEM.

Fingerprinting was used to identify the remains as Stillwell, 41. Police reportedly recovered his head and torso from an undisclosed location in Bay City — but Bay City Deputy Public Safety Director Rodrick Schanck told the Detroit Free Press that those remains were not at the residence where the search warrant was executed on Wednesday.

Stillwell’s family was reported missing on September 18 after he did not show up for work at  T.L. Handy Middle School, where he worked as a custodian.

MLive.com reported that an autopsy is pending. The suspect’s connection to Stillwell has not been disclosed, but Stillwell’s car was found .3 miles from his home and the suspect’s.
