Iowa Man ‘Covered in Blood’ Charged in Death of 17-Year-Old Girl

A 21-year-old Iowa man has been charged with abuse of a corpse after a missing 17-year-old girl was found dead Monday morning.

A criminal complaint says the mother and sister were out looking for her late Sunday night when they came upon Nathaniel Bevers-McGivney “covered in apparent blood” and with the missing girl’s scooter and other personal items, KCCI reported.

Police arrived on scene, and Bevers-McGivney demanded a lawyer rather than answer questions about the blood on his clothes. He was detained and brought to the Carroll County jail while investigators continued the search.

The missing girls’ body was found just after 9 a.m. Monday, according to the complaint. The location, the complaint said, “suggests that Bevers-McGivney intentionally hid” the body to conceal a crime, and that he failed to disclose the location with the intent to conceal a crime.”

The girl was reported missing in Calhoun County, and her body was apparently found in Farnhamville. KCCI reported crime scene tape blocking off Farnhamville City Park, along with multiple evidence markers and apparent blood stains on the ground.

The Southeast Valley School District sent an email to parents on Monday noting the death of a Southeast Valley High School student.

“Out of respect for the feelings of those impacted by this event, all district competitions and practices are canceled for this afternoon and evening (September 23, 2024),” the email said. “Counseling services are available for those who need assistance. Please call your attendance center office for a referral.”

Superintendent Brian Johnson sent a separate statement about the tragedy.

Investigators have not released the victim’s name. Bevers-McGivney is expected in court on Tuesday, when more charges may be announced, WHO reported.
