Renowned Australian actor and director Lex Marinos OAM has died at the age of 75.

The performer’s family announced the death in a statement on Facebook late this afternoon, after he passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at his home.

Marinos, who was born in Wagga Wagga in the NSW Riverina region, was known for his roles in local dramas including Kingswood Country, A Country Practice and The Slap.

He was the son of Greek immigrants and was also known for his work bringing together multi-cultural Australia.

His decades-long career on the silver screen earned him an Order of Australia in 1994.
