Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has strongly condemned the actions of a group of protesters who threw objects and abuse at police officers during yesterday’s protest.
While she accepted people had the right to protest peacefully, Allan said the right did not extend to some behaviour displayed yesterday.
“I want to again thank Victoria Police who are turning up to do their job in at times a dangerous and difficult situation. They’ve done their job to protect the community and to support community safety,” Allan said.
“What I’m particularly concerned to hear from the chief commissioner, whether the protesters coming in from Queensland or coming in from other parts of the state, there have been a number of protesters coming in not with the intent to peacefully protest.
“When you come to protest carrying rocks, bottles and balloons filled with urine and liquid with acid your intent is to not peacefully protest, indeed your motives are exposed.”
