Karim Benzema appeared to respond subtly after Cristiano Ronaldo chose Kylian Mbappé over him when asked to pick between the two players.
During an appearance on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, Ronaldo was asked to choose between his former Real Madrid teammate Benzema, now at Al-Ittihad and Real Madrid’s newest forward, Kylian Mbappé.
Ronaldo responded with a smile, simply saying, “Mbappé.”
Though Ronaldo never played with Mbappé, he shared the pitch with Benzema 342 times during their time at Real Madrid, combining for 76 goals.
Hours after Ronaldo’s comment, Benzema posted a photo of his 2022 Ballon d’Or on his Instagram story without a caption.
Spanish outlet Diario AS reports that Benzema’s post was a response to Ronaldo’s preference for Mbappé.
While Mbappé is yet to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or, he remains a nominee for the 2023 edition, though he is not considered a favorite.
