Police are appealing for public help to recover four Olympic medals stolen from champion Australian rower Drew Ginn in Melbourne last week.

Detectives believe the medals were stolen from his black Land Rover parked on Cumberland Street, in the city’s Docklands, between 9pm last Thursday 6 and 5am the following day.

Thieves stole one silver and three gold medals from Ginn’s four consecutive Olympic Games, including his gold medal won at Sydney in 2000.

Ginn, 49, was part of the champion crew known as The Oarsome Foursome.

He had left his Olympic medals in his car due to a speaking engagement at a school.

Other items stolen from the vehicle include a Rip Curl wetsuit, a Go Pro camera and Sony headphones.

Police have released a photo of the stolen Olympic medals, in the hope that someone can help recover them.

Detective Sergeant Timothy Reiher appealed for people to look out for the medals in pawn shops and online selling platforms.

“These are unbelievably rare items with significant sentimental value,” he said.

“Olympic medals are awarded to the best of the best and are priceless to their recipients”.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a confidential online report.
