Australian rock legend Jimmy Barnes updates fans on surgery recovery

Australian rock legend Jimmy Barnes has told fans he is “tethered to a drip 24 hours a day” weeks after he underwent an unexpected hip surgery last month.

Barnes posted the health update to his Instagram page on Friday night.

The 68-year-old said his family is on the way to the Maldives to perform and while he is unable to join them, he remains in good spirits.

“Sorry that I can’t be with everyone in the Maldives this next coming week, my family are all en-route,” Barnes said.

“I’ve got bit of FOMO (fear of missing out) actually that I’m not there.

“If I wasn’t still tethered to a drip, I’d be there swimming in the sea and singing songs on the beach.

“In the meantime, I’m having a party by myself.”

The surgery came after Barnes experienced a “twinge” in his hip during the New Zealand leg of his Hell of A Time tour.

In a previous update, the musician thanked everyone for the get well flowers and “multitudes of well-wishing cards and online messages”.

“While I’m connected to this bottle, I’ll be the guy getting spoilt. Ice cream in bed, watching the footy,” he said.

“Don’t worry, the physio has me working hard.”
