A Melbourne man has been charged with two serious assaults after an alleged incident involving a machete.

The 21-year-old man from Caroline Springs in Melbourne’s west is accused of damaging cars and wielding a machete in front of an address on Hopetoun Green about 10pm yesterday.

Police say a 54-year-old man and 24-year-old woman were taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries.

The man, 21, allegedly refused to exit a nearby home after police arrived on the scene.

He was then arrested after he allegedly surrendered to police about 11.30pm.

The man was charged with two counts of intentionally causing injury, two counts of criminal damage and one count of affray.

He was remanded and is set to appear in court today.
