Five people were killed on Sunday in an apparent murder-suicide at a home Long Island.
Nassau County police have not released the names of the victims, Newsday reported, but said that a man found dead “on the front lawn did shoot and kill himself.”
Records show that 95-year-old Theresa Martha DeLucia most recently lived in the home. She had died and was buried on Friday, Newsday said.
Real estate agent Mary Macaluso said she was meeting DeLucia’s children at the house to discuss selling it.
One of the children had “asked me to come and meet with them to give an idea of what they should do with the house before they list it and everything,” Macaluso said.
The meeting was scheduled for Sunday afternoon to accommodate two of the siblings who had come from Florida for the funeral, but when she arrived at about 12:30 p.m., she found the street blocked off by police.
Police said later they responded to a call about shots fire just before noon.
“Upon arrival, Second Precinct police observed a male outside the home that sustained an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” a news release said. “Further investigation revealed that 4 other victims were also discovered inside the residence deceased.”
Police have released no further information, but neighbors speculated that one of DeLucia’s sons — who lived in the home with her — may be the perpetrator, WPIX reported.
“He just snapped, I think,” Wendy Paisner said. “He’s one of four siblings … they were going to sell the house and he’s lived there his whole life. He really needed support.”
