Idaho Man Allegedly Guns Down Girlfriend During Argument Over Drug Use and Infidelity

An Idaho man has been charged in the shooting death of his live-in girlfriend in Rexburg.

Fabian Hernandez, 32, has been charged with first degree murder, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia after officers arrived at the home just after 11 p.m. Thursday and found Ariana Ramos Chavez, 35, dead at the foot of the front stairs with multiple gunshot wounds, EastIdahoNews.com reported.

Hernandez reportedly laid down on the ground and told the arriving officers, “I’m the one you’re looking for. I’m the suspect.”

Police said that one of Ramos Chavez’s children reported arriving home and finding Hernandez “with a gun in his hand standing by (Ramos Chavez’s) body.” The child asked Hernandez why he shot their mom, and he “began apologizing and dropped the gun near” the body.

The gun was on the ground next the body when officers arrived.

Hernandez told officers that he and Ramos Chavez had been arguing over his drug use and infidelity and that she reportedly told him to get his drugs “and get out.” He reportedly said he spent $300 to $500 per week on methamphetamines and that he’d bought the gun he used to kill his girlfriend through a Facebook group.

He reportedly said he had “blacked out” but that no one else could have killed Ramos Chavez. He also said he was the one who called 911.

Another of Ramos Chavez’s children reported hearing the tow arguing and Hernandez threatening to shoot her. The child said they saw Hernandez come inside and get then gun and go back out, shooting their mother three times.

Hernandez was given a $1 million bond during a court appearance on Friday. He was also ordered to have no contact with Ramos Chavez’s children.
