A resident in Western Sydney has been terrorised by a group of men who allegedly broke into his home armed with guns.

Police were told a group of armed men broke into a home on Horseley Drive in Smithfield at 10.20pm yesterday.

A 50-year-old man inside the home was allegedly assaulted and sustained minor injuries.

The men then allegedly fled the scene in two cars.

The resident was taken to Liverpool Hospital. 

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
