The body of a man suspected of shooting a house and injuring an innocent driver has been found in a creek in Sydney’s west.

Police were called to a home on Antwerp Street in Auburn just before 10pm on Tuesday after receiving reports of a domestic incident.

Officers were told a man known to the occupants had tried to force entry before firing several shots into the home and fleeing before police arrived.

Nobody inside the home was injured.

Officers were then called to nearby Mona Street following reports a 55-year-old man had been confronted by the man.

The gunman had shot at his car, striking him in the neck.

The man was rushed to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition while police established a second crime scene on Mona Street.

It’s understood the gunman fled before turning the gun on himself on the beds of Duck Creek. His body was found at 2.15am during a search of the area.

A firearm was also found and seized for evidence.

‘While the investigation is ongoing, the man’s death isn’t being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Coroner,’ NSW Police said in a statement.

‘There is no ongoing risk to the public.’

Police believe the shooting on Antwerp Street and the incident on Mona Street are linked and have made a public appeal for information.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact Auburn Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
