An investigation is underway after a man’s body was pulled from water near a South Australian boat ramp on Saturday morning.
Emergency crews were called to the boat ramp at Solomontown in Port Pirie, three hours north of Adelaide, about 6am after the man was spotted.
The 50-year-old from Port Pirie West was declared deceased at the scene, with CCTV footage from a nearby business showing that man was alive just 30 minutes earlier.
SA Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage of the investigation but a cause would need to be determined by the coroner.
Officers were reportedly taking pictures of a pushbike near the boat ramp though it is unclear whether it belonged to the deceased.
One local who was out walking her dog near the scene said while she did not know the man, she hoped his family could be ‘comforted’.
‘Things like this don’t happen often … We’re a tight-knit community and this is going to make a big wave,’ she told The Adelaide Advertiser.
The area was briefly cordoned off to the public on Saturday as detectives scoured the scene and divers searched the water but was reopened by mid-afternoon.
