A NSW community is mourning after the death of a local icon ‘Garry the Goat’ on Friday.

The well-known local goat lived on Mt Victoria Pass in the Blue Mountains and was rushed to Hartley Valley Vets after being struck by a car.

Despite the best efforts of the vets, the goat was put down.

Drivers around Mount Victoria often reported seeing the black goat by the side of the road.

“Garry was more than just a goat; he was a cherished part of our community, bringing joy to so many of us as we passed through the area,” Hartley Valley Vets wrote in a post on Facebook.

“His presence will be deeply missed, and we join everyone in mourning his loss.

“Rest in peace, Garry—you will forever be in our hearts.”

Garry was cremated and the community will prepare a memorial plaque in honour of the goat.

“We believe it’s important for the local community to decide where this special remembrance spot will be, so everyone has a place to reflect on the joy Garry brought to our lives,” Hartley Valley Vets said.

The Blue Mountains local Garry is not to be confused with another famous “Gary the Goat” that died in 2017.
