The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) is dealing with a mice infestation, with some staff telling 9News the situation is out of control.

Videos posted to social media show rodents scurrying in the hospital patient rooms.

RMH has attributed the infestation to its ongoing renovations.

A coronavirus cluster is engulfing the Royal Melbourne Hospital with at least seven patients, staff and visitors testing positive.

“We are aware that pest activity can increase during periods of construction and renovation, with works ongoing across the hospital,” a spokesperson said.

“Patient and staff safety is a priority for us and we are continuing to work with our pest control company to manage the issue.”

RMH has stressed that pest control measures are in place.
