Cassandra Durham

Michigan State Police are revisiting a decades-old case of a 19-year-old Maryland teen who disappeared in 1987.

Cassandra Durham left Baltimore with her boyfriend that summer, informing relatives of their plans to visit his grandparents in Roscommon, the MSP Seventh District post shared this week on X.

The couple was possibly traveling in a 1980 Honda Civic station wagon, passing through Ohio and stopping at Cedar Point, according to MSP. Investigators, based on an FBI Violent Criminal Apprehension Program missing person alert, believe the couple may have also traveled through Pennsylvania on their trip.

According to state police, the couple’s car reportedly broke down near Detroit, prompting the boyfriend to purchase an Oldsmobile Cutlass to continue their journey, The Detroit News reports.

Durham’s boyfriend told investigators they both returned to Maryland, but her father stated she never came back.

Durham was last seen in Roscommon in August 1987. She is described as having brown neck-length hair and blue eyes, and she was carrying a small black purse, according to the FBI alert.

The FBI stated she has a tattoo of her boyfriend’s initials and another of her college sorority’s initials on one of her hips or thighs, CBS News reports.

MSP announced that the Houghton Lake post is reopening Durham’s case.

Investigators urge anyone with information about Durham’s disappearance to contact MSP Detective Brett Nichols at (989) 422-5103 or FBI ViCAP at 1-800-634-4097.
