A 1-year-old boy survived two days in a ditch off Interstate 10 in Louisiana, several miles from where his 4-year-old brother was found dead on Monday.

The children’s mother, Aaliyah N. Jack, 25, was located in Mississippi and charged with failure to report a missing child.

The older boy was found in the water behind the Louisiana Welcome Center in Vinton on Monday, KPLC reported. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s deputies put out a an alert for information, and soon a family member from Mississippi contacted the sheriff’s office with concerns that she knew who it was. She also told deputies about the missing baby.

As deputies were preparing to search the waters at the welcome center for the baby, a trucker spotted him in a ditch at about 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Stitch Guillory said finding the boy, who had bug bites but was otherwise in good health, was “unbelievable,” KATC reported.

“We call him our miracle baby, because it’s a miracle he’s still alive,” Guillory said. “We’re so thankful for this trucker that saw this baby this morning and immediately pulled over on the side of the road and called 911.”

Jack was found at a train station in Mississippi, Guillory said.

An autopsy will determine the 4-year-old’s cause of death.
