A murder investigation is underway after a woman’s body was found at a waste management facility in north-east Melbourne.

Staff made the discovery when moving green waste at the facility in Epping on Cooper Street on Wednesday.

The woman has not been identified, but will be when police receive post-mortem results.

Police said the woman is believed to have been inside a bin that was picked up outside a property in Coolaroo on Tuesday and taken to the facility in Epping.

Officers are on the streets obtaining CCTV footage to work out what has happened.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have CCTV or dash-cam footage between Sunday last week and Tuesday.

“Detectives are also keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area around that time,” police said.
