A missing 17-year-old girl who was nine months pregnant and days away from giving birth on Valentine’s Day was later found dead in a South Carolina ditch from “multiple sharp force wounds and multiple stabs and incisions,” authorities say. Now a 62-year-old woman faces two counts of murder, and during a court appearance Tuesday that ended with no bond, the suspect told the judge “I don’t wanna talk to you” as Maylashia Hogg’s heartbroken family members looked on.
The defendant, Jacqueline Reid, was linked to the deaths of Hogg and her “full-term” unborn child Londyn Charity by forensic evidence found at the suspect’s home in Barnwell, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
Warrants allege that murders took place on Feb. 8, the day Hogg was last seen alive. Cops posted a missing person alert on Valentine’s Day, the day Maylashia was due to give birth. She was found dead on Feb. 18 in a ditch.
Reid “did with malice aforethought, either express or implied, murder the victim, Maylashia S. Hogg, who was 40 weeks pregnant, by stabbing her multiple times with a sharp-edged weapon,” authorities said. “A search warrant was executed at the defendant’s home […] which revealed forensic evidence of the crime.”
Hogg was last seen “in close proximity to the defendant’s residence and where her body was discovered,” documents said. “An autopsy was completed and determined the cause of death as multiple sharp force wounds and multiple stabs and incisions.”
When Reid was arrested on Monday, City of Barnwell Police Chief Michael Butts expressed his condolences and said this was his first case as the top cop locally.
“Maylashia and her baby’s death greatly impacted our community. I want to thank everyone who worked tirelessly to help this investigation,” he said. “Please keep Maylashia’s loved ones in your thoughts. We must continue to care for each other, to honor Maylashia and Londyn’s memories, and come together to heal.”
Speaking with WRDW/WAGT, Hogg’s relatives revealed their shock and heartbreak.
Her aunt, Judy Hogg, reportedly said “you have to be sick with hate to do someone like that — anybody, better yet a child.”
“I just want to know why,” she reportedly added. “And then to know that she was gonna have her baby in less than a day or two. That’s sick.”
Maylashia Hogg’s stepfather Michael Sapp was in tears in court on Tuesday when he described interactions he had with Reid while the search for his “baby” was underway.

“I just can’t believe that she actually did this. I asked her several times have saw Maylashia and she looked right at me and was like ‘no,’ and knowing the whole time that she had did this to my baby,” he said.
Reid, for her part, had nothing to say in court other than she had nothing to say.
“I don’t wanna talk to you,” she told the judge.
The suspect’s first appearance was set for Aug. 26, court records reviewed by Law&Crime show.
