Madison Grace Davis.

Nearly two years after her father was fatally shot while driving in Alabama, 4-year-old Madison Grace Davis has passed away after suffering atraumatic brain injury during the crash.

PEOPLE reports that Madison passed away last month, as confirmed by her family on a GoFundMe page last week. Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates confirmed that Madison died on June 25, at Children’s Hospital of Alabama.

According to AL.com, Madison’s father, Demarkus Etwan Moss, Sr., was driving with his children along Arkadelphia Road in Birmingham at around 6 p.m. September 2, 2022, when a nearby car began firing into his vehicle, Birmingham police said.

Moss, hit by the gunfire, managed to continue driving for about half a mile before crashing into another car.

Police found Moss dead at the scene, with Madison unresponsive in the vehicle. Officer Truman Fitzgerald told PEOPLE that Madison wasn’t shot but suffered serious injuries from the collision. Madison’s infant brother survived without serious injuries.

“Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. BFR transported all other injured parties to various hospitals. The toddler is the only victim believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries,” BPD stated in a news release.

Madison was later released from the hospital but was readmitted due to complications, and never regained the ability to talk or walk.

Following the shooting, Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin pushed for information to find the killer, expressing frustration over the violence impacting children.

“Birmingham police have very few leads in this case so we’re turning to the public for help,”’ Woodfin wrote. “I’m tired of these cowards hurting our children. Enough.”

So far, no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact Birmingham homicide detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
