ACTRESS Angela Simmons has spoken out after she received major backlash for the bedazzled accessory she brought to a recent event.
The Supermodel actress attended the BET Awards in Los Angeles, California on Sunday night.
While walking the blue carpet of the event held at the Peacock Theater, Angela, 36, donned a sparkly emerald green ensemble.
Her strapless dress went down to her ankles while her toned legs were on full display due to the sheer fabric of the gown.
She had her hair and makeup touched to perfection while accessorizing with matching earrings and a sparkly green purse shaped like a gun.
Her purse of choice and red carpet poses were heavily criticized on social media.
One person wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “Angela Simmons pointing the purse as if it was a actual gun is diabolical.”
Another said, “Angela Simmons is really a 10/10 but always gotta do some cringe s**t. Why are you wearing a gun purse with an evening gown?”
ADDRESSING THE BACKLASH
Shortly after her awards show appearance, Angela spoke out about her gun purse in a video shared on social media.
She said, “I’m not violent. I’ve obviously been through a lot in my personal life when it comes to gun violence and it’s very personal to me.”
In 2019, Angela’s baby daddy and ex-fiance, Sutton Tennyson, was shot numerous times and killed in Atlanta, Georgia.
The star continued, “I just liked the bag and I thought it was cool and I thought it was a fashion moment.

I didn’t have any intentions of ruffling anyone’s feathers, it seems that a couple of people are a little upset but I don’t mean no harm.

As the apology video was shared on Instagram posted by The Shade Room, people weren’t letting Angela off easy.
“Use your brain! You are a public figure with a son who father died by gun violence. We are not going to give you permission to act oblivious to this DO BETTER,” one person commented.
