Missing Man Found in Buried Freezer Months After Acquaintance Is Seen Beating Him Outside Home

Tennessee police have arrested a suspect after a missing man’s body was reportedly discovered in a buried freezer on Wednesday.

Edward Elliott, 64, was reported missing on March 31, but investigators believe Joey Guinn, 46, killed him sometime in February and moved his body. Guinn told Elizabethton and Carter County police that he last spoke with Guinn in late January, according to WJHL.

Guinn allegedly also stated that Elliott had been at his home for a day or two a couple of months prior. In mid-April, police got a tip about Guinn and another man beating Elliott outside of Guinn’s home. The couple who witnessed the incident believed the altercation occurred between late January and mid-February, WJHL reported.

The witnesses also claimed that Elliott pleaded for his life. The next day, they reportedly found a pool of blood at the location where the fight transpired. They also recalled Guinn leaving in a truck with a “job box” storage container in the bed. However, the container was missing when he returned, WJHL also reported.

According to WCYB, Wednesday’s search in Hampton led a cadaver dog to a remote area with a strong scent of human decay. A metal detector was used before investigators dug up the spot and found a large freezer containing Elliott’s presumed remains.

Guinn is charged with first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence. His bond was set at $5 million.
