Huge Netflix show reveals return date for new season – but Oscar winning star is missing from cast

EMOTIONS are running high in tellyland after a third series of hit Netflix show Heartstopper has finally been confirmed.

But sadly, Oscar-winning actress Olivia Colman will not in board for the next adventure.

The 50-year-old who starred as Nick Nelson’s mother has left the show, due a clash of filming schedules.

Olivia told Forbes: “I couldn’t do number three. I couldn’t fit it in. I feel awful about that.”

She added: “I feel like I was part of one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever been part of.”

However the door is always open for the much loved star, whose character could easily return at a later date.

Olivia admitted that she’d happily appear in the fourth series if there were no clashes.

She said: “I’ll have a word. As long as it’s booked in advance, maybe I’ll be able to do it, yeah!”

Netflix bosses have confirmed that the LGBT love story will be back on the streaming platform in Ocotber, with actors, Kit Connor and Joe Locke reprising their roles as Nick and Charlie.

The first series of the cutting edge drama landed in 2022 followed by a second last year.

Enjoyed by millions, the coming of age drama has made stars of the lead actors. Joe Locke has been given a role in Marvel series Agatha: Coven of Chaos, while Kit Connor has two upcoming films, after signing with top Hollywood talent agency WME.

Heartstopper has catapulted transgender actress Yasmin Finney to national attention as they now have a major role on the new series of BBC’s Doctor Who.

Speaking ahead of the last series, actor Joe Locke said that the show has made a big impact on older generations, which has been the key to its ongoing success.

He said:  “I think the secret to the show’s success, which none of us were expecting, was how much Heartstopper resonates with older generations.

“Quite selfishly, that’s something I hadn’t even thought of until the show came out.

“It was really great to see that it meant a lot to so many people.”

He added that they were approached  during a recent trip to Washington, D.C in the US.

Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum site: “He was 56, I think, and he’d come out the year before because he’d watched Heartstopper.

“Now has a boyfriend and is the happiest he’s ever been. Reactions like that make you realise this is a show that really matters to people.”
